Tally Prime · Multi-user · Mumbai & Delhi NCR

Tally multi-user on a Windows RDP — the office that never closes.

One licensed Windows server holds the company data; accountants in Jaipur, Surat and Siliguri all work in the same books at the same time.

The classic problem: Tally lives on the office PC, so whoever isn’t in the office can’t post entries — or worse, the data travels on USB sticks and WhatsApp zips until nobody knows which company file is current. A Windows VPS inverts it: Tally and the data live on the server, and everyone connects over RDP to the same installation.

Multi-user Tally is designed for exactly this. License the server once, share the data folder, and your team works concurrently — entries, invoicing and reports all hitting one authoritative copy. At 5–15ms from most Indian cities, RDP to our Mumbai or Delhi nodes feels like the PC is in the next room.

Bonus: the server never sleeps. Year-end work at 2 AM, your CA logging in from another city, GST filing on the last day — the machine is just on.

Set up in 5 steps.

  • 1. Deploy a Windows VPS — Cottage (4GB) suits 1–3 concurrent users, Bungalow (8GB) for 4–8.
  • 2. Receive admin RDP credentials by email (~60 seconds) and connect: mstsc on Windows, "Windows App" on Mac/phone.
  • 3. Install Tally Prime on the server, activate your licence, and place your company data in a shared folder.
  • 4. Create a Windows user per accountant — each RDP session is independent, all hit the same Tally data.
  • 5. Point your team at the server IP; restrict RDP to your office IP or a VPN if you want it locked down.

Recommended tiers

Cottage — ₹475/mo
2 vCPU / 4GB — 1–3 concurrent Tally users

Bungalow — ₹836/mo
4 vCPU / 8GB — 4–8 concurrent users + reports

Common mistakes

  • • Buying a "shared RDP" where strangers share your Windows install — Tally data needs a private VM, not a seat on someone else’s.
  • • Putting the data file on a synced folder (OneDrive/Drive) — Tally company data corrupts under file-sync. Keep it on the server disk, back it up separately.
  • • Leaving RDP open to the internet with a weak password — set a strong one and restrict port 3389 to known IPs.
  • • Running on a home/office PC instead — power cuts and ISP outages close the books for everyone.

When this is NOT enough

A single VPS handles most firms up to ~10 concurrent users. Past that — multi-branch setups with heavy concurrent reporting — split data access onto Windows Terminal Server licensing or ask us about a larger dedicated slice. If you only ever have ONE user, a 2GB tier works but 4GB is far more comfortable.

Tally multi-user mode supports concurrent users — the practical limit is server RAM. 4GB handles 1–3 sessions comfortably; 8GB handles 4–8.
Tally Prime Gold already covers multi-user on a LAN — an RDP server counts as your LAN. Confirm against your licence terms with Tally Solutions.
Included — licensed Windows Server 2022/2025 on every tier, no add-on cost.
Yes — private VM, dedicated IPv4, and you control who can reach port 3389. Safer than a laptop with the company file.
The session keeps running on the server — reconnect and you’re exactly where you left off. Nothing is lost.
Yes — enable printer redirection in mstsc and server-side prints come out on your local printer.
